Adopting Secrets

Ideas to Help Find Adoption Situations

ParentProfiles.com. We obviously recommend ParentProfiles.com as the most effective way to find the child of your dreams. This profile allows birthparents to find and read your profile from the privacy of their own home or other location at any time. ParentProfiles.com allows you to add features such as an online photo album, journal, and "favorites" page that help birthparents get to know you in ways not possible with paper profiles. ParentProfiles.com is promoted throughout the Adoption.com Family of websites, which has millions of pages visited each month.

AdoptionNetworking.com. Adoption.com has developed a revolutionary tool that allows you to easily get the help of family and friends and their family and friends in finding an adoption situation. AdoptionNetworking.com sends a customized adoption networking card via e-mail to a list of your family and friends. Then, not only will the recipients see your card and have a link to your profile, but they will also be invited to send a similar card to their family and friends via e-mail to help you.

Put a "We Want to Adopt" message in your Christmas (or Holiday) card or letter - Let your friends and relatives from out of state know that youre seeking to adopt by including a request with your holiday greetings for help in finding a birth mother. You can also enclose several of your adoption business cards and a link to your profile.

AdoptionChat.com and AdoptionForums.com. MANY adoptive parents have connected with birthparents in the AdoptionChat.com chat rooms or on the Birthparent message boards at AdoptionForums.com. One person we know of has already adopted three children (different birthparents) from contacts made in the AdoptionChat.com chat rooms. We encourage birthparents to only select parents from ParentProfiles.com, and you can refer any birthparents to your profile to give you credibility.

Promote your Profile. Once your profile is online at ParentProfiles.com, there are many things you can do to promote it, such as:

  • Asking friends and family members with websites to link to it
  • Registering in search engines, link pages and guest books
  • Joining webrings
  • Joining e-mail lists
  • Advertise in your company newsletter

Use an Adoption.com E-mail Address. You can get a free e-mail address at Adoption.com by visiting AdoptionMail.com. This service allows you the ability to check your e-mail from basically any computer with an Internet connection. Having this address can help you network with others who could help you connect with an adoption situation, but otherwise would have no idea you are hoping to adopt.

Place a "We Want to Adopt" footer on your e-mail messages. Program your e-mail message system so that your names, a link to your profile, and a message expressing that you want to adopt appear at the bottom of every e-mail you send.

Join an adoption support group. A support group will not only give you help with your questions about adoption, but its members can be a great source of potential birth mothers for you. Members of your support group may get more birth mother contacts than they need and will pass these contacts on to other members of the group.

Run an ad in local newspapers. Write a short advertisement, including a link to your profile, and place it in newspapers on high circulation days like Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Run an ad in local shopper magazines. These publications are distributed free to homes or are often available at no charge in local grocery stores and convenience markets.

Wear a t-shirt that tells the world you want to adopt. Local screen printing stores can custom print t-shirts with your personalized message, "We Want to Adopt a Baby" or "Hopeful Adoptive Parent."

Send your profile information to those who work with pregnant women. Mail your photos, profile information, and "Birth Mother" letter to crisis pregnancy clinics, county health clinics, local obstetricians and gynecologists with a letter asking that they refer birth mothers to you.

Give your adoption "business" card to everyone. Distribute several of adoption networking cards (like business cards, but expressing that you want to adopt) to each of your friends, relatives, church members and coworkers, and tell them that you are hoping to adopt a baby. Ask them to refer any birthmother they may know to you. Youll be surprised at how willing people are to help.

Place your adoption business card on bulletin boards. Take a stack of your cards and a container of push pins or thumb tacks and scour your town for bulletin boards in libraries, laundromats, grocery stores, apartment complexes, mailing service stores, coffee shops, bookstores, college and university message centers, dormitory houses and student health care centers, and employee lounge areas of local businesses. Put your cards anywhere you think a potential birth mother or someone who might know a birth mother might be.
